He teaches okay, but when it comes to tests he expects you to read his mind. Would not recommend.

Schnell is brilliant. He encourages you to be able to think for yourselves in his lectures and his tests. That being said, this class is not for someone who is lazy and has a habit of cramming. If you actually put in the effort to practice and learn the problem sets, the tests will be easy. Go to …more PASS sessions as well when you need extra help. less

His lectures are mind grabbing and entertaining. Sadly, a majority of his lectures do not cover anything you will be tested over. All the lectures are in his own notebook and based on his own personal opinions. Do not buy the book, he tells you in the beginning not to bring it to class. Would not …more suggest taking him. less

Professor Schnell is old school and expects you to have a solid academic foundation by the time you reach this class. He expects you to attend and participate in class. He gave only 2 tests and there is a big group project which requires weekly updates to the class on progress. He made the class …more interesting and was always willing to see students. less

Pretty good teacher. Often arrogant and condescending. Grades pretty harshly on tests.

He can be blunt, but he does not intend to be mean. Has a dry sense of humor. Be thorough on explanations on the test and don't be afraid to ask for help; he will always help if you're willing to try. No text book required. ECN445 is a fun elective class.

I'm a CS major and this was by far one of my favorite classes and professors. I really enjoyed his lecture style as it's not the usual fill your brain up with knowledge then leave, it was more of a dialogue between the prof and students. I never got the book, just took notes and paid attention each …more class and passed with an A. less

The only thing you will be graded on is the exams, so study hard. He goes pretty quickly with the material, and is tough to understand. If you are not naturally good at math, I would recommend taking another teacher or setting some time aside to see a tutor.

He never says someone is completely right. He has to correct the student. He once gave a student a 99 and when the student asked why he made a 99 he said he could not talk about the test.

His tests are multiple choice but a lot of them are answered by which are more correct, meaning you have to know what he thinks. He gives barely any study prep for his tests and his classes are test only. He does not have office hours. Would not take ever again.
