SHE IS AN OKAY PROFESSOR .YOU BASICALLY TEACH YOURSELF BY READING THE BOOK ON YOUR OWN. THE CHAPTERS IN THE BOOK IS REALLY LONG AND SOMETIME COMMON SENSE BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO READ THAT IS REALLY MANDATORY.

Such a sweet lady. She requires reading of the chapters for the exams, but I passed all three tests by just listening closely to lectures and copying down chapter reviews (she lets you take one page of notes for tests). She lectures a lot but you pretty much read the book and teach yourself.

She's great! Really sweet professor, really wants you to pass. She lets you use notes during her exams and to pass all you need to do is read the book or pay close attention to lectures. I recommend her!

Dr. Avila made this class an enjoyable experience. She loves to educate those who want to learn and she made the class material very engaging. If you need to take a critical thinking class, I highly recommend this one. You will learn about most of the social problems happening today.

Spring 2013 was the first time Avila teached SOC 100. She did a very good job or her first time. Class is based on 3 exams and she is a really nice person. She does not provide power points so people can come to class, but she does go over the exams the class before and lets you know what will be …more on the test. I suggests getting the book as well. less

I really loved her class. You can tell that she enjoys teaching and has such a passion for it by the way she lectures. It's adorable! I never read for her class, and though I would write down the notes, I never used them. She would tell us what would be on the midterms and final and study from the …more book, so I think it is important to have the book. less

Very nice teacher and quite easy as the other ratings have commented, however, there was very little class participation. This is supposed to be a critical thinking class. She is extremely liberal and her biasness definately shows. That's why we were reluctant to give our opinions in class.

She is such a sweet kind lady. She helps you out when you need help. There was very little class participation but when there was it was good. I recommend you take her. She literally opened my eyes to our world.
