Professor McDonnell is a good teacher, but not amazing. She expects a lot from students. She is a nice person and relatively easy going, but it is by no means an "easy A". If you are planning in minoring in journalism you will probably have to take her.

McDonnell is an interesting professor with a passion for music criticism and rock history. She knows her stuff. The readings are all about concerts, and rock and roll, it's actually really cool. She is not an easy grader, she makes you work for that B. An A might be out of the picture for an …more elective. Take her, you will actually learn. less

Professor McDonnell is a wonderful professor who is very passionate about what she teaches. Participation definitely matters and you get easy points by simply attending class. There are no tests but there are four small papers with a final research paper. She brings up relevant issues in class and …more it is discussion based. Go to her office hours! less

Professor McDonnell has a great sense of humor, and rewards usage of personal tone. Her class has helped me develop my style of writing through her creative and hand-crafted assignments. She really cares for the musical Hamilton. To each his or her own I suppose.

She is nice, a good journalist, & loves to engage in interesting conversation. Her class is hard but not boring. She told me that my work wasn't good enough and wasn't up to "standard." Although this kind of feedback may help other students, it was incredibly discouraging and made me …more feel like I wasn't good enough, and that I should change my major less

It is quite the boring class, and you can tell by her mundane tone while lecturing she is not interested either. Papers are based off of pointless topics and has weekly student powerpoint presentations. Students learn more from each other than the professor herself. Lots of papers and is horribly …more strict at grading, for someone who doesn't teach. less
