Dr. Shin's one of my favorite professors. Have taken 2 of her classes & throughly enjoyed both. She gives clear, concise lectures w/ helpful handouts & covers all material you need to know to pass. Screens really interesting films. Only assigns 2/3 lengthy papers per semester but you get to pick …more film to analyze. Can't wait to be in her class again. less

Most of the movies Professor Shin picked for the class were very enjoyable, but also could teach a lot about the subtexts in film. Lectures were good. But there was A LOT of reading. There are only three papers and that is all you're graded on. On the plus side, no in class final. Also, extra …more credit was a lot of work for a small amount of points. less

She's pretty nice and shows us fun television shows. She assigns readings every week but never goes over them, so basically no homework ever. Only complaint is she's VERY lecture heavy to the point where no one else ever gets to talk. She's also a little snippy and doesn't like being asked …more questions. A little awkward to talk to. less

I took Shin for History of International Cinema and I would say she is an extremely intelligent professor, but not easy. There is a decent amount of reading, 3 film response papers, a research paper, and a final exam. She does has a very strong personality that can be a little off putting, but she …more is really passionate and knowledgeable about film. less

I enjoyed this class! There's not a ton of homework, just a take-home midterm and final, and a paper. There's reading every week, but you only have to know two topics really well, so you can write about them for your exams. She's a reasonable grader too. I was a little intimidated by her strict, …more "doctor-like" presence, but she's pretty nice. less

I rather watch paint dry than take her ever again. If you have an option, try and avoid her... Talks nonstop and none of it makes any sense

The course is okay. Prof Shin is clearly knowledge but her movie choice is subpar. While I understand the need for watching art cinema, I didn't realize that was this entire class. Overall, it's pretty dry with a few interesting kernels of info.
