Marshall is a very enthusiastic teacher who is truly concerned with his students' educational journey. There are not a LOT of papers that need to be written, but clearly, the reading load is heavy and he is a very FAIR marker around the A-B level.

good, enthusiastic teacher, but can be a little clear and too detailed in discussion, often getting hung up on minor points. still, is very helpful during office hours to talk about papers and is an EXTREMELY nice, friendly, warm person.

No homework, only about 4 essays during the semester. Final is a take-home essay. Doesn't grade hard for a great books teacher. Class is somewhat boring, but the work is so easy, I didn't mind. He doesn't take off if you miss a couple days either. Easy, and nice guy.

He is so great. I loved his class and had a great time in discussions. He truly loves great books and believes in the program. He also really cares about his students and is always available outside of class. He likes students to lead class discussion so be prepared for that.

Marshall is extremely enthusiastic, even at 8am. He really loves what the books he teaches, and it shows in discussions. Discussions can get a bit too detailed and off on tangents, but theyre mostly enjoyable. He expects a lot on papers, but gives you a chance to rewrite them after a meeting with …more him. Not the easiest class, but worth it. less

I like Dr. Marshall. He's a really smart guy (degrees from Harvard and Yale), very articulate and well-spoken, and leads discussion very well. I am often bored by the topics (disappointing), and the discussion tends to go off into boring areas. He grades papers fairly reasonably, and papers and …more reading are his only assignments. Recommended. less

Class is challenging, but if you keep up with the reading it is not too hard. Dr. Marshall really enjoys teaching GB, which causes the class to be fun. There are 5 papers, which he grades pretty hard, but lets you re-write them for a better grade. A great teacher!!!!

Great man. Really takes an interest in students. He's really passionate about great books and it shows in class. He's usually more excited about the reading than the students but I guess you have to be to be a prof. He expects a lot in his essays but you do have an opportunity to redeem yourself …more with makeup essays. He won't just hand out A's. less
