Not a good teacher. She does not come close to living up to her reputation. Very defensive and narcissistic. Often does not follow through on what she says.

A really fantastic and talented teacher. Every student needs a different teaching style. Prof Arms is willing to adapt to your needs without taking offense to the idea that her explanations are not working. Very flexible, and pours her heart into her students' success.

Studying with Janet was a waste of my time and money. She created a lot of probelsm for my embouchure and is too concerned with political hype rather than teaching. I'm extremely happy to be transferring and getting away from her nuttiness.

Janet is an amazing teacher. She pushes her students to be the best they can be and she is really understanding about her student's problems and situations. She makes herself available to her students even when school is not in session. She does not have very structured lessons, so she is probably …more better for more advanced students. less

Prof Arms is an amazing teacher and performer. Her best quality as a teacher is her desire to see every one of her students be as successful as possible. She works well with all different learning styles. Her lessons are unstructured which is great for graduate students. She is an all around …more wonderful teacher! less

Janet rocks. seriously. She's an incredible flutist with a strong personality. She does a fantastic job of guiding her students and making changes in their playing without overwhelming them. Very warm and friendly towards freshman and dedicated to helping us all seek out opportunity and career …more development. She's the reason i came to Hartt :) less

Janet sure has her favorites!! If you are one of her favorites you can pretty much get away with murder at Hartt. If not, then her golden children will be allowed to treat you like crap and you will have to do things like clean up her office. Janet sets up an environment in which flute is …more secondary to tokenism. less

Janet is a fabulous player, an impeccable teacher and a fantastic woman. Although she assigns loads of work, all of her students make dramatic improvements every week. She demands hard work from her students but in return her whole studio plays at a remarkably high level. I can not recommend her …more enough: she is phenomenal in every way. less
