Dr. Niles is a very enthusiastic calculus lecturer and is very approachable if you have any problems with the assigned work. His knowledge of the content is extremely profound and he often goes beyond the book giving us more insight of the problems we encounter. He also loves to give proofs of the …more theorems you use, so be prepared for that. less

Dr. Niles is very fair in his dealings with the students. He changed his lectures midway through the course to help students understand the material better. His lectures are great for math majors because he goes in depth and shows proofs for many topics. If you are struggling, Dr. Niles is very …more friendly and willing to help. less

Dr. Niles is very fair when dealing with students and grades. If you are having trouble understanding something, he is willing to meet with you outside of his office hours to help you understand the subject matter. He wants to help you actually learn. Homework is challenging, but not impossible, …more and really prepares you to do well on the exams. less

Didn't use OnCourse or relay grades to students so we could track grades. Unavailable during his office hours. Did not answer all questions when asked. Frequently made mistakes on chalkboard and wouldn't clear up the confusion. Homework was too easy compared to the tests; made key during tests. Not …more good at explainging concepts to intro students. less

I took the class with high hopes. The information covered is easy enough with a little time devoted on your part. I would not recommend the teacher. His tests do not cover any of the information he goes over in class, are unclear as to what he wants, and his reviews are useless. I will never take a …more class with him again. less

He is a quirky man but seems nice and is fair and respectful. He is willing to explain the material if you don't understand but sometimes is too smart about some topics which makes it harder to understand. there are better teachers but there are certainly worse ones as well. I would have class …more with him again if given the chance. less

Very helpful and patient professor. He seems so smart that I am surprised he can even teach. But I think he did a great job explaining the "whys" and "hows" of calculus. the theory and practical application. Gives lots of assistance if requested. HIGHLY recommend him!!!!! And I …more hadn't taken a math class in 6 years! less

Seems nice enough but just can't simplify concepts. Goes over endless proofs on the board and when he actually does example problems he skips so many steps without explaining what he's doing that it's nearly impossible to follow. Prepare to teach yourself Calculus if you take his class, because …more you're not going to learn much from him in class. less

PROOFS!! Math majors - This is your dream professor. Not a math whiz? Stay far far away! Will stop and try to answer questions when asked but seems to be in his own little math world most of the time. Unclear at best. Skips steps when doing problems on board. Only reason to go to lectures …more is his surprise quizzes. Stay away if you can! less

This prof seems to be more interested in the proofs than actually explaining the concepts he's proving. Unless you're a math major, DON'T take his class.
