This is the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. I have never felt like I would fail a class until this one. Gaw doesn't explain any of the readings and expects you to take a quiz on it right when class starts. There is way too much reading assigned for the little instruction given on the …more topics. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. less

She is a TERRIBLE professor. You have a quiz every day on the ridiculous amount of reading she assigns, and her quizzes are near impossible! I read and I still fail them. She is not helpful at all, and it seems like her goal is to fail students. She seems sweet at first, but be warned. She is the …more hardest grader I have ever encountered. DO NOT TAKE! less

English was my FAVORITE subject until this class. You have a reading quiz EVERYDAY, and you have no idea what she's going to ask; or whether it'll be a essay or short answer. She graded my paper innacurately as well and tried to tell me I was "not knowlegable enough" on my subject..It was a 9 page …more research paper that was 30% of my grade.DONTTAKEHER less

Dr. Gaw is awful. She is so incredibly inconsistent in what she tells you that it is almost amusing. She gives virtually no instruction for any of your assignments. The daily reading quiz is worth a full point of deduction if it is missed or failed, which is clearly more than the syllabus states. …more She is overall just the worst professor i'v ever had less

There is a lot of reading but if you put any effort in at all the daily quizzes should be fine. I've gotten check marks on all of them. The problem comes in for essays...she ignored my cited data and brought up her own life experiences on a paper (about sleep cycles), giving me a 70. I'm not …more usually one to get worked up but it was a RESEARCH paper. less

Warning: This class will be stressful, a GPA killer, and overall terrible. Daily reading quizzes, a 33 short response FINAL exam that spans over 770 pages, and 2 research papers. She grades too hard and usually makes it out so that your interpretations are wrong. DO NOT TAKE.

Quizzes almost EVERY day, worth 70% of the grade, but most of the time the quizzes were incomprehensible. She often taught after the class about random topics that were in no way going to be discussed on our quizzes, so they were a huge waste of time. I dropped her class. I was well on the road to …more failure, even as an English major! DON'T TAKE HER less

I see I'm in the minority here; however, I thought that she was an excellent professor. People were actually complaining in class that she was treating an entry level course like "some prestigious university." She's intelligent, helpful, and insightful. Literally all you have to do is read the …more required text and reflect. This is college, people. less

Unlike most folks on here, I enjoyed Dr. Gaw's class. She isn't the easiest professor to have, sure, but she is certainly passionate and knowledgeable about what she teaches. After getting stuck in her class and reading all of the horrid reviews, I was terrified, but Dr. Gaw turned out to be a …more magnificent teacher. less

This was the first English class I've taken in which I was miserable. She knows her stuff, but the grading system is a joke and doesn't encourage actual learning whatsoever. The quizzes were inconsistent and group work was unnecessary. Yeah, this is college, but I've had harder classes more …more tolerable than this one. less
