She is really sweet and helpful, but you have to get to know her. Ask a lot of questions and she will love you. Harsh grader, but tells you exactly what to do to fix it and the "final" product will be what is graded.

She's a relatively nice person and tries to be helpful when she can. It's hard to tell what she's looking for in writing assignments and your papers will have to REALLY blow her away if you expect anything other than a C. She will be more inclined to help you if you participate in class. If you …more arent prepared for class she will kick you out. less

Custer is one of the most helpful professors if you take the time to ask her questions and take advantage of her office hours. It is a very tough class, but if you work hard and try your best she is likely to respect that and take it into consideration when grading.

Heather Childress Custer describes herself as a very high strung, stressed being, but she barely shows this in class. She is one of the tougher Freshman English teachers at App, but I did learn a good amount in her class. She gives several opportunities to improve your grade on the three large …more papers because she is a tough grader. less

There was a time where I really needed help, or more of a break really and she was not considerate of my circumstance in the slightest. Rude actually. Expect long papers and reading, class is what you might expect from a generic English class. Lots of writing, revising, and researching.

Entirely too much work for a gen ed class. A LOT of writing. But she is willing to work with her students, wants to help you get a good grade, and wants you to become a better writer. Happy, positive face in class. Very friendly. You have to put in a lot of painful work, but she will help you …more a lot on your papers if you ask. less

Syllabus day with Custer was frightening, to say the least. It seemed like she was purposefully trying to scare away as many students as she could. If she does this to your class, stick with her! She is very reasonable about grading and always willing to help if you need it. Sometimes her class is …more stressful, but if you work you'll do great! less

I have never seen a professor put in so much effort inside and outside of class. It is obvious she wants each individual to succeed and her feedback is always constructive. I don't care for English one bit, however I felt myself truly grow in her course. The class is tough, but after a semester it …more is impossible not to have respect for her. less

Professor Custer has homework every day you have class, but it isn't very difficult. Attendance is mandatory. Plenty of time is given for the bigger assignments like paper and group projects. She isn't a very tough grader, and if you are willing to do the work, the class will be a breeze.
