There are 4 exams. That's it. No assignments, just these 3 midterms and the final exam. If you do bad on one, you better do well on the next one or your final grade will suffer. No extra credit. As long as you read the textbook, then there is nothing to worry about, but the exams reflect about 98% …more of the book and 2% of the lecture. less

He's a nice guy but his class is next to impossible. There's only four tests and barely any of the material covered in the lecture is on it. Grad students make a lot of the test questions but they don't go to the class. Take this class if you want to drag your GPA down. Otherwise stay far away.

DOESN'T CURVE. Only graded material is 4 tests. Pull up your grade? Good luck. He doesn't write his own exams. Grad students do it for him. Rambles instead of covering book material.

Class was very simple. Dr. Putnam keeps things simple. This is an ENTRY LEVEL PS COURSE! DO NOT MAKE IT HARDER THAN IT IS! Attendance is not mandatory. If you read the book then you will pass. He only has 4 grades; 4 tests. They are multiple choice and come straight from the book and current …more events (YOU MUST WATCH THE NEWS). Also, participate!!!!! less

Lecture based class with only 4 tests. They are multiple choice but he does not write his own test. He has you write all of these notes but you never know if he will have questions from the notes or the readings making it impossible to study for. I almost used a career drop.

Laughing at the only good rate and I am realizing it is what he says in class so he probably wrote it himself. Nice guy but should stick to the actual applying side of government not teaching. stay away if you care about your transcript

Your grade in the class was determined by 4 test grades, so if you did poorly on one, you had to well on the others. Which is what happened in my case. Putnam was nice enough to weight the lowest test less than the other three, so I managed to squeeze out of the class with a B-, but was stressful …more for sure. I studied for hours before each test. less

There are only 4 grades for the course, a sure fire way for your students to struggle. The fact that the grad students made the majority of the exams' questions but didn't come to the lectures make it even harder. Putnam seems like a great guy and political analyst but I cannot recommend him as a …more teacher. I will retake the class once he is gone. less

Putnam is a really nice guy, but his lecture style is far from my favorite. He let his grad assistants write test questions and I don't think they had ever been to class. He offers help and study sessions, though, which is nice. I didn't read much and got a B- in the class. If you go to class, …more read, and study, you should be fine, but it isn't easy. less
