This class had the potential to be interesting and Mrs.Dearmin ruined it. All you do is reflections on ridiculously long and monotonous readings. She does not even teach you herself. There are guest speakers every week whose random topics oftentimes have little or far-fetched connections to …more feminism. DONT TAKE IT. YOU WILL HATE IT. less

This class (Female Icons) was horrible. We did absolutely nothing relevant in class, yet we were constantly assigned research papers about topics that provided no benefit to the students whatsoever. There was never a set lesson plan for class and instead it was just preaching pro feminism. Yet the …more workload out of class was ridiculous. DON'T TAKE! less

Literally one of the best teachers I've had at App. She understands that every student has different needs and is so willing to help. She was interesting and gave a great overall view of the subject. She was really encouraging and encouraged critical thinking, but not in a scary way. Seriously, so …more great. The greatest. less

This class was easy, but very stressful. We had to do a lot of work that was unnecessary. She ended up not grading a lot of our work in the last week of class. Overall I really regret taking this.

Class has different guest speakers every week so you get to meet a lot of profs from all over campus. She does reflections instead of test and lets you make corrections for extra points. I had trouble lining up my volunteer project, but it worked out in the end. All readings online, but NOOOOOOO …more late work. REPEAT no late work!!!! less

Prof just a facilitator of weekly guest lectures that had no real underlying theme. Guest topics highly boring to non interdisiplinary majors. Constant long monotonous readings and reflections on readings. Learned absolutely nothing!!! This class should totally be eliminated, it's totally useless, …more unless you are a women's studies major. AVOID!!! less

I actually really enjoyed this class. Yes, Professor Dearmin didn't teach much but the name of the class is Distinguished LECTURES so it's going to be mostly lectures. I found the lectures to be very interesting and it gave me an introduction to a lot of fields. There is a volunteering project that …more was kind of hard to set up. less

I got an A however i had to work very hard. No late work, lots of pointless rambling, bought 3 or 4 books and hardly used them, unrealistic expectations, and preaching about feminism. very tough grader, too much for a freshman seminar
