Dr. Kissel is new to Appalachian but he's already made me love anthropology more. He knows what he's talking about and clearly loves the subject. He shows interesting videos and teaches with a modern style. His lab is fun and interactive and usually not as long as the allotted time. If you pay …more attention and study then you should be fine. less

He is very passionate about anthropology, but not very good at teaching it. His ppt/lectures are confusing and unorganized. Labs and quizzes are very easy and fun. His tests are hard because of the lack of organized power points. I stopped going to his class b/c understanding him was pointless, so …more I just read his notes online. less

Nice guy, very understanding. Tests are a little harder than you'd expect based on lectures, but if you do the readings you should be totally fine. Overall he's a pretty easy teacher and isn't a hard grader or hard on attendance at all.

Dr. Kissel is very knowledgable about anthropology. A lot of his lectures involve his personal stories, which is interesting, but it was difficult to determine what information to study. He doesn't use a textbook but he posts readings each week. He takes attendance sporadically and posts the power …more points online but attending class is important. less

Dr. Kissel's personality was great! You can tell he knew what he was talking about and cared enough to try to include interesting material. He was pretty unorganized with his powerpoints and lectures. The test were more difficult than you'd expect. No textbook, but posted readings every week. He's …more a super nice guy and I'd take him again! less

My favorite professor I've had at App. The tests can be difficult, but if you study then you'll do fine. Sometimes, there is some weird questions on the tests. I went to office hours quite often and he helped me so much. By the end, I barely missed any questions on the tests. Make flash cards!! He …more is such a goofy man who made me love Anthropology less

For someone that was taking anthropology as a gen ed credit to avoid biology or chemistry, Kissel did a great job. He's a funny guy that guys about his class. I didn't have to study a lot for his exams. He gave study guides prior to the exams; plus there were only four exams including the final and …more none were cumulative. less

Prof. Kissel makes a subject that would put me to sleep interesting and fun. He shares funny stories and adds jokes. Tests are fairly easy if you study a little bit for them. He is also present and helpful in EVERY lab session. I highly recommend him and this class if you aren't big on science and …more need your gen ed. He's awesome! less

Dr. Kissel is made Anthropology way less intimidating than I originally thought it was going to be. The labs almost always got out early (20 minutes before we were supposed to get out was the latest we ever stayed). Go to class and do the readings, make sure to take diligent notes and study the …more powerpoints. less

Dr. Kissel is great, very helpful during the labs. They never took the full two hours. There's not a lot of work, pretty much just 4 exams, 4 online quizzes and a project he gives you months to do. A good class for those not particularly good at science/math. Also, he frequently canceled class or …more let us out early. less
