Dr. Mendiola Garcia knows her information, but she is very subjective in her grading. She is very hard to understand sometimes and doesn't really treats you like you're in a graduate level class. The midterm and final are take home essay's that she expects to be very well developed and an essay in …more the semester with a ton of reading and discussions less

Dr. Mendiola really knows her material in Latin American History. She defiantly teaches topics that you'll be glad you learned. She presents slides and lectures. As a student you got to do your part also. Overall great class and great teacher. I learned a lot. You'll be happy you took her class :)

Very sweet woman, heavy emphasis on writing, very subjective on writing, clear Socialist sympathies which is not a bad thing until it influences her grading which I suspect it does. Best way to improve grade is to blame poverty on US. Very one-sided discussion of very complex issues. Do the …more reading, take her papers seriously, and drink the coolade less

I really enjoyed this class. Professor Mendiola and her TA Michelle were a great pair. The class had two midterms and a final, several reading quizzes, and two books to read. Her tests were essay based but she prepares you for them. You learn a lot and I'm glad I took her! I'm walking away with A …more but your effort determines your grade. Take her! less

very interesting class, but I would suggest that everyone take her.She is a bit harsh in grading and expects advanced writing.Very passionate and willing to help you if you ask.you have to go to class and participate.I didnt like a lot of the articles she has us read, but loved the books. Research …more project at the end. I'd take her again less

Really interesting class, presents a Latin American perspective on their own history. May be controversial to some but ultimately an accurate and well presented narrative. A little hard on grading, but not necessarily a bad thing seeing as we're in an institution of higher learning.

I thought Dr. Mendiola was an excellent professor, she was always available to help and even lent me a few of her personal books to help with my final paper, attend class, do the readings, and get to know her at her office hours, you know basic college stuff. If you do this you will get an A.

Dr. Mendiola is a dedicated scholar &professor. She cares about her students success. She is available & very open to discussions. All of her lectures are inclusive and she makes it a point to not use the Anglo Saxon perspective. She wants everyones experiences to be included and valid in …more historical narratives. So impressed & lucky to have met her less

Lots of reading, but that is to be expected of a 4000 level course. Her accent makes it tough to understand her at times, but she is very nice and helpful if you ask. Since she is originally from Mexico, she has a passion for its history and I would recommend her colonial mexico class (4180).
